"From the Projects to Princeton"

Embracing Diversity

DWB - Driving While Black

This topic for me is by far the one I am most passionate about as it is literally "my story" of my formative years.  The theme is essentially learning how to set a direction in ones life, adjusting and adapting while changing oneself to overcome challenges.

Creating and maintaining ones direction in life includes a combination of ingredients of ones natural strengths, gifts and talents, ones interests and ones goals.

This is a talk about my journey ... from the Projects to Princeton!

Part of who we become is the result of our efforts and abilities to incorporate diverse elements into our lives.  It may be something simple like learning a second language, cooking different foods or listening to different types of music.  The world is rapidly becoming a multicultural place to live with an emphasis on the international community.  People from many nations live in and visit the United States of America that has sometimes been referred to as a "melting pot".  This is an aspect of our world today that requires us to embrace diversity.

Namaste!

We have all heard about DUI and what causes it, right?!  Well have you ever heard of or experienced "DWB"?  Do you believe that there is such a thing as "driving while black"?  How would you suggest it be best handled?

Well, I have been stopped multiple times ... yes ... just because I am black ... and treated a certain way by the police in particular ... because I am "black".  This workshop focuses on identifying situations of such racial profiling and suggestions for how to handle such situations in an effort to diffuse it and protect oneself from a variety of negative repercussions.
